Dress types different body
Some of us just
put on whatever we like without really paying enough attention to what
would suit our figures the best. Here are some simple rules to follow
when choosing and wearing clothes that can help you look even better
than you already do.
Curvy
Don't be tempted to swamp your shape in baggy layers and frumpy colours.
Instead, celebrate a voluptuous shape with fitted tailoring and vampy
dresses for red-carpet glam. Highlight your best features and show them
off with eye-catching accessories like a waist-defining belt in a
contrasting colour. Sloppy casual-wear won't do you any favours, so
bypass baggy jeans in favour of boot cuts with a body skimming tee.
musts for curvaceous figures - Tailored trousers to elongate legs
- Fitted coat to streamline your figure and polish your look
- Corset tops - fantastic for nipping in
your waist
- High-heeled court shoes to give
you presence
- V-neck sweater for a sexy '50s silhouette
- Pencil skirt to show off your shape
Tall and slim
Slender and leggy, you can wear most styles. Many otherwise hard-to-wear
trends look great on you, so be adventurous with skinny jeans, prints or
clingy dresses. What to avoid? Low-cut tops are a no-no if you're small-chested,
and watch out for crop trousers and bracelet sleeves, which can have a
too-short effect.
musts for leggy ladies
- Skinny trousers - dress them up with heels or down with ballet flats
- Slinky satin gowns for va-va-voom allure
- Horizontal stripes to help minimize
a long torso
- High-heeled boots for tucking drainpipes into Jersey tops to wear with
jeans or dressy trousers
- Belted trench - a classic cover-up
Petite
Fit is all-important on a petite figure, so shop carefully. Hunt out
petite ranges, which are altered proportionately for a perfect fit.
Vintage buys are great for petites, as they rarely fit anyone else.
One-colour dressing helps keep the silhouette streamlined, especially
with dark colours. Short skirts are best on petites, so get those legs
out. Matching tights and shoes elongate the leg and a heel will help add
height. Too many different things going on in an outfit visually 'chops
you up’ – so keep things simple for the best effect.
musts for petite figures
- Above-the-knee skirt to show your legs off
- Fitted sweater for a slim line silhouette
- Kitten-heel boots to wear with trousers
- Tailored bootleg trousers - great for visually lengthening legs
- Knee-length coat for a neat, pulled- together look
- Flapper dress to wear with strapped heels
Pregnant
Don't hide a pregnant belly under smocks and tunics. You don't have to
bare your midriff, but a gentle outline can be tastefully stylish.
Bias-cut and wrap dresses are a favourite as they have more 'give', are
excellent for evening wear and can be worn post-pregnancy too. Be
careful with crop tops, which tend to look tacky; instead, longer-length
tops will cover (but not hide) your bump. When wearing figure-hugging
outfits, pick one with a high neckline.
musts for pregnant women
- Stretchy jumper dress to create an uncluttered line
- Wrap top or dress - adjust as necessary
- Pyjama pants to wear under the bump
- Ballet pumps for comfort and style
